The Magnolia Volunteer Fire
Department will be breaking
ground on a new downtown Central
Fire Station #181 very soon. The new 30,000
square ft. Central Fire Station
will be located at the corner of
Buddy Riley Blvd and Brantley,
and will include Administrative
Offices, a Training facility,
and an Emergency Operations
Center.
New Scott Air Packs for
MVFD
The Magnolia Volunteer Fire
Department has taken delivery of
62 new SCOTT Self Contained
Breathing Apparatus, commonly
referred to as SCBA or Air
Packs. The new SCBA are state of
the art high pressure breathing
systems with features such as
Heads-up displays for air usage,
Rapid Intervention Connections
for buddy breathing, and new
lighter 45-minute carbon fiber
air cylinders with increased air
capacity. The new High Pressure
SCBA’s substantially improve
both the fire fighters safety
and their performance on the
fireground.
New Incident Command
Vehicles
The Magnolia Volunteer Fire
Department has placed six (6)
New Ford Expedition Incident
Command Vehicles in service.
These new Command Vehicles
operate as the mobile Command
Post for our Incident Commanders
to manage the emergency incident
from. They are equipped with new
mobile radios and a Command
Workstation that includes
tactical worksheets and
reference materials that the
Incident Commander may use to
mitigate the emergency.
New Technology
MVFD has purchased ACS
Firehouse, a cutting edge fire
reporting software. The software
was selected after carefully
considering its features in
comparison to the other fire
reporting software on the
market. We found Firehouse’s
statistical reporting feature
very comprehensive, yet simple
to use. It will give us the
ability to run queries about the
types of incidents we make most
often, for example, the
percentages of cooking or grass
fires each year, etc. Armed with
this type of information, we’ll
be able to develop Fire and Life
Safety programs to target and
educate the public in those
problem areas. The safety of the
people in our community is
MVFD’s number one priority, we
believe prevention education is
the key to reducing the number
of fire related injuries and
deaths each year. Another great
advantage of this software is
that it will give us the ability
to track how much property value
we save the tax payers. In
relation to fires, it’s common
to think in terms of how much
property was lost. MVFD thinks
it’s important to show the tax
payers how much property value
we save each year. Another
important feature is the “Gear
Inventory module” that allows us
to track the personal protective
equipment issued to all of our
firefighters. It’s important
because it insures that our
people are in gear that is up to
specifications, and all the
proper safety testing has been
conducted.
New Bunker Gear
The Magnolia Volunteer Fire
Department has become one of the
first Fire Departments in North
America to receive a new state
of the art fire resistant
material used in the
construction of their new fire
fighting Turnout Gear. The
fifty-five (55) new Turnout or
Bunker Gear (fire fighting
suits) sets were manufactured by
the FireGear Corporation and
funded by Emergency Services
District #10. The new fire
fighting suits improve the
safety of the fire fighters and
will reduce the number of burn
injuries to our fire fighters
while improving our ability to
assist trapped victims.
New Medical Response
Vehicles In Service
In June 2006, the Magnolia
Volunteer Fire department placed
three (3) Medical Response
Vehicles in service. These
vehicles are used to respond to
Medical Emergencies throughout
the community. In the past, our
Emergency Medical Service First
Responders utilized the Fire
Engines as Medical Response
vehicles, which substantially
increased the Departments fuel
and maintenance expenses. By
using the new Medical Response
Vehicles, our operating expenses
and our risk to our Fire Engines
has decreased.
MVFD Receives $16,000
Grant
The Texas Commission on Fire
Protection Personnel has awarded
the Magnolia Volunteer Fire
Department a $16,000.00 grant
for the purchase of Bunker Gear
for our upcoming Recruit School.
The grant funding will allow the
Magnolia Volunteer Fire
Department to purchase new
Bunker Gear for the use to train
new members of the department
safely.
MVFD Receives $700.00
Grant from Forestry Service
The Magnolia Volunteer Fire
Department received a $700.00
grant from the Texas Forestry
Service for tuition
reimbursement for 10 of the
department’s members attending a
fire fighting school at Texas
A&M University.
MVFD is the first fire
department in Montgomery County
to be NIMS compliant
The Magnolia Volunteer Fire
Department became the first fire
department in Montgomery County
Texas to formally adopt and to
come into compliance with the
National Incident Management
System (NIMS) on August 27,
2006. Each member of the
department successfully
completed the National Incident
Management System training
courses provided by the National
Fire Academy. In addition, the
department has been reorganized
to align itself with the NIMS
system through the appointment
of four (4) Assistant Chiefs who
lead the Operations, Finance,
Logistics, and Planning
Divisions.
