Howdy kids

Hey Boys & Girls, I’m “Tanker” and I help the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department teach kids about life and fire safety. Welcome to my fire safety fun pages, I’m so happy you stopped by! This page contains some very helpful information about Life and Fire Safety. Be sure to share all the information with your parents, older brother and sister or younger brother and sister, and friends. If you know what to do you can help those that may not.

Are you ready to follow me and see what I have learned about Life and Fire Safety? Do you want to have some fun? Well then, follow my footprints, to learn all about becoming a Tankeroo?

Now let’s get started!

  • Never play with matches or lighters. IF you find matches or a lighter go tell an adult immediately!

  • Never handle gasoline or other liquids that burn.

  • Always be careful around a stove, heater or open fire.

  • Don't cook without an adult being present.

  • If something catches on fire, get adult help or go to a neighbor’s house and call 9-1-1.

  • Don't hang up until you are told to do so; listen for instructions.

In Case of Fire:

  • Stay low and leave the building immediately!

  • Don't stop to take anything with you, go straight to your safe meeting place.

  • Never ever go back into a burning building for anything or anybody.

  • Call 9-1-1 from a neighbor's house.

  • Never attempt to put out a fire yourself, no matter how small it is.

What do you do if your clothes catch on fire?

  • If YOUR clothes catch on fire, "Stop, Drop and Roll!"

  • If someone else's clothes catch on fire, don't let him or her run; yell, "Stop, Drop and Roll!"

  • Once they are down and rolling, you can use a rug, blanket, towel, or other heavy cloth to help put out the flames on their clothes.

  • Get adult help or call 9-1-1.

  • Don't hang up until you are told to do so; listen for instructions.

  • Work with your parents on a fire escape plan, like the one shown below.

  • Plan who helps who to get out, and where to meet once outside. Then practice it over and over.

  • Household members with disabilities may need special help.

  • Stay low if smoke is present; crawl if you must to stay out of smoke.

  • Alert others in the house to the emergency; yell "Fire", bang on doors if you can.

  • Feel any closed door before it is opened. If the door is hot DO NOT OPEN IT!! There maybe fire behind the door. Leave the door closed and find another way out of the house or room.

  • Know two ways out of every room and your house; one can be a window if you can open it by yourself. You can escape using the front door and back door.

  • Remember; the lights may not work during a fire. Know how to get out in the dark.

  • If you are upstairs do not stand up to go down them. Crawl down the stairs. DO NOT stop to take anything or to help pets.

  • Always remember- Get Out and Stay Out!! Never go back inside your house period!

Safety Tips for Electricity:

  • Never put anything into an electrical outlet.

  • Never take apart or try to fix electrical things yourself.

  • Tell an adult immediately about any electrical appliance that starts smoking, smells funny, or makes sparks or funny noises.

  • Never climb power poles or anything near a power line.

  • Never fly kites near power lines.

  • Never have anything that has a power cord near bathtubs, sinks, or puddles of water.

  • Committed to practicing Life and Fire Safety.

  • Can demonstrate Life and Fire Safety skills need to be safe.

  • Always willing to teach others how to be safe too.

  • People who care about others and set good Life and Fire safety examples.
